 The Magen David Synagogue, Byculla, Mumbai (India)
150th Year Celebration

The Magen David Synagogue, which was built by David Sassoon and his family in Byculla, Bombay (now Mumbai), India, celebrated its 150th anniversary. It was a momentous occasion, with dignitaries from around the world who were present for the ceremonies.

We are presenting (below) some of the addresses made on that night, as well as historical facts [1] and photographs of the occasion.

Mrs. Rachel Menashe Greetings on the Occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Magen David Synagogue in Byculla, Mumbai, Bombay

Mrs. Rachel Menashe, wife of H”R Albert Menashe, Life President and Chairman of the Sassoon Charity Trusts in Bombay, India, gives her personal greetings to the community and leaders of the Sassoon Synagogues and Trusts in Mumbai. This video was shown in the grounds of the Magen David Synagogue in Byculla, Mumbai, India, to a crowd of some 800 well wishers.

Rabbi Ya’aqob Menashe Delivers a Powerful Hanukkah Message From Mumbai, India

Rabbi Ya’aqob Menashe delivers a powerful Hanukkah message at the Magen David (Sassoon) Synagogue, in Mumbai (Bombay), India. The packed audience included politicians, ambassadors, Rabbis and many dignitaries.

Rabbi Menashe had the audience transfixed with his Hanukkah message.

Grand Rabbi Sinai Halberstam, from Brooklyn, NY, the Zhmigroder Rebbe, Rabbi of Beth Midrash Divrei Chaim, was a guest of honor at the 150th year celebration of the Magen David (Sassoon) Synagogue in Mumbai, India. Rabbi Halberstam gave a special blessing to the entire congregation.

The Hacham, Rabbi Ya’aqob Menashe speaks about the Magen David Synagogue in Mumbai, India, with recollections about his childhood. The occasion was the 150th anniversary celebration of the the famous synagogue built by the philanthropist David Sassoon. The Sassoons were known as the Rothschilds of the East.
