Torah it forgot which it was taught by an angel, when in the mother's womb. The source for the Sephardi custom of having the Akd Il Yas (or Berith Yis-haq) where guests are invited the night before the Milah, is from the Gemarra (Sanhedrin 32b). There is a Kisseh Shel Eliyahu (chair for Elijah the prophet, and, if the Milah will be held at home, the chair for the Sandak as well. Portions of the Zohar are read (as laid down by Rab Hida 'a"h), there is a Shulhan (meal) during which Shbahoth (songs of praise), such as E-l Eliyahu are sung in honor of Eliyahoo Hannabi, zl"t and songs, such as Yehi Shalom, are sung in honor of the baby boy, so that this will be a Se'uddath Miswah. There is also a custom to have a Se'uddah (festive meal) on the day of Shabbath itself, when these special songs are sung. It should be noted that the original custom seems to have been to celebrate during the entire week and not just on the eighth night.
